While almost the entire state of Pennsylvania was under winter storm warnings, West Mead #1 viewed the poor weather conditions as an opportunity to improve our ability to establish water supplies efficiently. Fifteen members along with 28-12 and 28-13 traveled to the Springs Road access for Tamarack Lake. Once at the site, members briefly reviewed winter water supply and established a draft with two portable pumps. After using both an ice auger and chainsaw, members set up the 500 gpm and 250 gpm portable pumps. Water was then delivered to the portable Blitzfire monitor and recycled back onto the ice surface several hundred feet away. The operation was broken down and set back up several times for additional practice. While not a pleasant evening to be outside for two hours, our members left the site knowing that if they can set up in the wind, snow, and darkness, they can set up anytime.
