On Tuesday West Mead #1 brought the three engines to the Wilson Chutes boat launch for practice with water supply using portable pumps. Two 500 gpm portable pumps were set up to draft from French Creek using hard suction and floating strainers. Two 3″ supply hoses connected to a 4″ supply hose using a siamese appliance, which supplied water to Engine 28-11. Another 4″ supply hose connected Engine 28-12, and crews deployed each engine’s deck gun and an 1 3/4″ handline on 28-12. Some members practiced basic engine company skills like advancing hoselines, operating the nozzle bail smoothly, and changing fog nozzle patterns. Less experienced pump operators got some hands-on experience on the engines’ pumps, developing skills to maintain a steady water supply in support of fireground operations.
