At 9:29 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched to assist Cochranton with traffic control on US 322, with an initial report of low-hanging wires blocking the roadway. Engine 28-12 and Squad 28-14 responded to shut down US 322 at Harvey Road at the request of Chief 4 Scott Schell. Heavy rainfall had eroded an embankment, undermining the pavement and making the road unsafe for traffic. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Penelec, and National Fuel assessed the scene and began planning for repairs. West Mead #1 personnel directed traffic to alternate routes until released by Dept 4 fire police. US 322 remains closed to traffic with detours set up until the road can be repaired.
All 28 units returned to service by 2:45 PM.
