At 6:58 PM West Mead #1 was dispatched with West Mead #2, Vernon Central, and Saegertown to assist Meadville Central with a working structure fire on Randolph Street. Meadville Ambulance was already on scene with Meadville Central. Because members were gathering at Alden Street station for training, a full crew on Engine 28-12 acknowledged and was en route within 10 seconds of dispatch, arriving at the two-story wood-frame residential duplex within 4 minutes.

On scene West Mead #1 crews stretched a line to the second floor for fire suppression and began overhaul on the second-floor interior and attic. Eventually a combined crew from West Mead #1 and Vernon Central was assigned to set up ladders and vent the roof on the Charlie side, where hot spots continued to push smoke until interior crews completed overhaul and extinguished them with a hand line.

Eight persons were reportedly displaced by the fire, with no reports of injuries to residents or firefighters. American Red Cross was on scene to offer housing and emergency assistance to residents.

All 28 units returned to service by 10:30 PM.
