This week for training West Mead #1 members met at Alden Street station and reviewed pre-plans for Neason Hill Elementary, the only school in our first-due district. Fire Chief Brad Johnston presented the pre-plan with overhead maps, building floor plans, priorities for first-arriving engine companies, mutual aid assignments, and unique hazards and realistic emergency scenarios for the facility.
After reviewing the pre-plans and an overview of an upcoming fire safety promotion, Dept 28 members split into two teams to practice with hydraulic rescue tools. The teams used wood cribbing to build a JENGA®-style stack and took turns pulling a block from the stack. The drill provided hands-on experience with the Holmatro hydraulic rescue tools as well as some good-natured competition.
