On Tuesday West Mead #1 members trained on establishing water supply using portable pumps along French Creek. Engines 28-11 and 28-12 were deployed on McHenry St, with 28-13 standing by in case of an emergency call. Squad 28-14 provided scene lighting. Crews set up two 500-gpm gas-powered portable pumps using 3″ hard suction to provide water to 28-11. Three hundred feet of 4″ supply hose connected 28-11 to 28-12, which flowed water back to French Creek through the deck gun.
The drill provided practice on setting up portable pumps, tested the water supply equipment, and gave newer members and engine operators an opportunity to improve and refresh their skills.
