Just before 6:00 pm Sunday, West Mead 1 was dispatched with West Mead #2 and Meadville Ambulance for a residential basement fire on Park Street. Chief 28 arrived on scene to find black smoke pouring out of one of the doors. 28-12 arrived and advanced a 1 ¾” hoseline into the basement for fire suppression. 28-13 arrived and advanced a second line into the structure for backup. Crews from West Mead 2 laddered the structure and secured 28-13’s supply line at the corner of Park Street and Liberty. Due to smoke conditions and limited basement access, a second alarm was requested, bringing Cochranton, East Mead, Meadville Central, Saegertown, Vernon Central, and Vernon Township. The fire was confined to the object of origin but the structure suffered significant smoke damage. Crews returned to service just after 9:00 pm.
