West Mead #1 recently purchased new fire hose and nozzles. Much of the old equipment had begun to fail at incidents including a fire in 2013 where a nozzle failed and was unable to deliver water while firefighters were inside a burning structure. The new equipment arrived and was placed in service on Saturday. New for the department was color-coding supply line at specific distances. This was done to assist the driver in determining how much hose remains on the engine. The first 800′ of supply line is orange, while the last 200′ is blue. When the driver observes a change in color while laying supply line he or she will know to find a spot to safely position the engine for pumping and/or to request additional resources to complete the lay.
