On Tuesday afternoon fire departments throughout Crawford County were scrambling to respond to reports of vehicles involved in weather-related accidents.
West Mead #1 was dispatched at 12:48 pm to assist West Mead Police with traffic control at an accident involving two vehicles on Star Route near Townline Road. Engine 28-12 responded and set up traffic control until West End Towing and Leonard’s Towing removed both vehicles.
Eleven minutes after returning to service, West Mead #1 was dispatched for an additional motor vehicle accident on Pettis Road. Engines 28-12 and 28-11 responded from Alden St, and 28-14 responded from Liberty. The incident involved four vehicles that had collided amid slippery road conditions. Department 28 shut down Pettis Road until West Mead Township Road Department and PennDOT had applied sand and salt brine. Leonard’s Towing removed three vehicles and assisted the fourth to clear the scene.
While crews provided traffic control on Pettis, the department was dispatched for a third accident on Liberty Street at Lamont. En route to the scene, 28-14 was canceled by the police.
Department 28 returned to service by 4:23 pm.
