At 5:07 PM West Mead #1 was dispatched with Vernon Central and Saegertown to assist Meadville Central with a fire at Meadville Public Library. West Mead #2 had already been dispatched for a full assist. Initial arriving units reported a working fire with smoke billowing from the basement level and the chimney. The city fire department made a good stop on the fire, limiting the extent of the fire damage to the boiler room. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 arrived on scene and crews were assigned to search the second and third floors for extension. There was no extension to other floors, with light smoke venting from lower flowers. 28 personnel helped with scene lighting and cleanup.

According to The Meadville Tribune’s news report of the incident, there was no damage to the library’s contents.
