At 7:43 pm Thursday West Mead 1 was dispatched for a structure fire on Liberty Street less than a mile from our station. West Mead Police and Chief 28 arrived on scene to find a two-story home with fire in the basement. 28-12 arrived on scene within 4 minutes. Due to the distance from the roadway to the house, crews deployed 200 ft of 2.5″, then connected two 1 3/4″ lines for attack. Lines were in place as 28-13 and 28-14 arrived on scene, and crews entered the basement to attack the fire. West Mead 2 arrived with two engines and established a dump site for tankers and sent crews inside for search and suppression.

Due to fire conditions in the basement, a second alarm was requested, bringing Cochranton, East Mead, Meadville Central, Saegertown, Vernon Central, and Vernon Township. Crews operated on scene for several hours conducting overhaul and searching for extension.

Meadville Ambulance provided water and evaluated firefighters during the incident due to warm temperature and high humidity.

Crews returned to service just before 11:00 pm.
