On Saturday West Mead #1 assisted Meadville Central with their annual Junior Firefighter Camp. The one-day camp was open to children in kindergarten through fourth grade. After registration and introductions, the children were organized into five teams of 8-12 apiece, guided by adult group leaders. The teams rotated through a series of stations focused on different skills or technology used by emergency services. Meadville Ambulance and Meadville Police demonstrated the equipment on their emergency vehicles. Crawford County Scuba Team showed off their scuba trailer with an inflatable raft and their equipment for water and ice rescue. Other skill stations introduced knots, thermal imaging cameras, hose lines, ladders, engines, turnout gear, and airpacks. The day concluded with a relay race that combined the skills students had learned throughout the day.

Members of West Mead #2, Vernon Township, and Cochranton volunteer fire departments also assisted with the camp, along with Attaboy Dog Obedience.
