At 12:04 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched as part of a second-alarm assist to Vernon Township VFD for a working structure fire on Cussewago Road. Engines 28-13 and 28-12 responded to the incident, while Engine 28-11 responded to standby at Meadville Central. Department 28 arrived at the 1 1/2-story wood-frame single family dwelling to find the bulk of the fire knocked down by earlier arriving units. West Mead #1 was assigned to vent the roof, first from ground ladders and then from Vernon Township’s tower platform. Smoldering contents and significant fire extension throughout the attic and behind a knee wall required intensive overhaul. A third alarm was struck for a tanker relay, bringing water from a hydrant near Vernon Township’s Station 27 club. Summit VFD was requested to bring a fresh crew and use their compressed air foam system (CAFS), applying foam to the structure and its contents to prevent a rekindle.

While 28-11 was on standby at Meadville Central, they responded with Meadville Central personnel to a fire alarm at a manufacturing facility on Water Street.

All 28 units returned to service by 4:27 AM.
