At 3:38 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched with Vernon Central and Saegertown to assist Meadville Central with a structure fire on Highland Avenue. Engines 28-13 and 28-12 responded to the scene, a two-story wood-frame residential duplex, where crews from Meadville Central and West Mead 2 were already at work extinguishing the fire that began on the porch and spread into the apartment and up the eaves. Crews from 28 were assigned to salvage and overhaul, with one crew checking for extension in the Bravo-side apartment of the duplex, and another doing overhaul on the Delta side exterior and interior. West Mead 1 also helped with cleanup after the incident.
One apartment suffered extensive fire and water damage, with fire damage on the second apartment’s first floor and smoke damage upstairs.
No injuries were reported. A pet rabbit was rescued from the duplex by Meadville Central firefighters.
All 28 units returned to service by 6:03 AM.
