Just before 5:00 PM West Mead #1 was dispatched with other departments to assist Cochranton VFD with a working structure fire on Griffen Road. Engines 28-12 and 28-11 responded to the incident involving a single-story ranch-style wood-frame residence. Engine 28-12 completed an 800-foot forward lay of 4″ supply hose from a creek to the drive. Dept 28 personnel from both engines assisted with fire attack and overhaul. Some of 28-11’s crew assisted with establishing water supply using three 10′ sections of hard suction and East Mead’s Engine 9-8 to draw from the creek.
All occupants evacuated the structure safely. The fire was extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported.
Other departments on scene with Cochranton included East Mead, Blooming Valley, Vernon Central, and Vernon Township.
All 28 units returned to service by 8:12 PM.
