This week for training we focused on the fundamentals of drafting with the engines. Crews met with 28-11 and 28-12 at the Liberty Street station for a review of drafting principles and a practice evolution of setting up draft in the parking lot. Both engines then traveled to the water site and completed drafting operations, with all members present establishing water supply with 28-11 and then again with 28-12.
As the drafting drill concluded, West Mead #1 was dispatched for RIT to assist West Mead #2 with a basement fire along Highway 86. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 responded with 9 members. Department 28 personnel secured the utilities while West Mead #2 knocked down the basement fire and checked for extension. Several pets were rescued from the residence by West Mead #2 personnel and treated on scene. All 28 units returned to service by 11:00 PM.
Other departments dispatched included Saegertown and Meadville Ambulance.
