On Tuesday West Mead #1 met for training at Alden Street to review wintertime drafting on Townline Road. West Mead and East Mead Townships recently improved roadside access to a creek along Townline to provide better drafting access for fire department use. 28-12 and 28-14 were deployed to practice drafting using hard suction. Reaching the water’s surface required some snow removal and careful placement of the apparatus. Officers documented the setup with photos as a functional pre-plan to establish a draft during emergency operations.
Members returned to Alden Street to review the recent Stizerville structure fire and consider scenarios for basement extrication of a downed firefighter. Evolutions included the possibilities that a firefighter may be trapped but uninjured and conscious, injured and conscious, and injured and unconscious.
Thanks to 28-C3 Brad Johnston for his work in preparing the drill and to the twenty members who showed up to train. West Mead #1 also extends its appreciation to 9-C2 Dan Bollis and the supervisors of West and East Mead Townships for their work on the drafting site on Townline.
