At 8:26 PM during a severe thunderstorm, West Mead #1 was dispatched with West Mead #2 and Meadville Ambulance for a structure fire on Calvin Street in the township. Assistant Chief Craig Lauer confirmed a working fire with no entrapment, with live power wires on the ground. Engines 28-12, 28-11, and 28-13 responded to the two-story wood frame residence with fire showing on the exterior, Alpha side. Engine 29-1 arrived first on scene and began a transitional attack with their deck gun, knocking down the bulk of the fire. Interior crews then entered the ground floor on the Charlie side and made their way to the second floor to complete fire suppression and overhaul. Department 28 personnel assisted with primary and secondary searches, water supply, accountability, fire suppression, overhaul, ladders, ventilation, and salvage.
While 28 crews were wrapping up their assignments, the department was tapped for a second call for a flooded basement on Saybrook Road. Engine 28-13 left Calvin Street to respond to that call.
Vernon Central assisted on scene with RIT and refilled air cylinders with their cascade system.
The 28 units on Calvin Street returned to service by 10:45 PM, while the 28-13 crew cleared the Saybrook Road incident by midnight.
