At 11:38 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched with West Mead #2 for a reported garage fire on Calvin Street near Dickson Road. Engines 28-12, 28-13, and 28-11 responded to the scene, a single-story post-frame garage with smoke hanging heavy in the area. With a confirmed working fire, Vernon Central and Meadville Ambulance were requested to assist. On arrival Engine 28-12’s crew split up to assist a Dept 29 team with an interior fire attack and to pull a second handline to the front of the garage. After venting the roll-up garage door with a K-12 saw, Dept 28 personnel assisted with exterior fire attack, overhaul, and personnel accountability. Engines 28-13, 28-12 and 28-11 assisted with tanker shuttle using a hydrant near Kuhn Tool off Shartle Road. With temperatures in the mid-teens, West Mead Township Road Department was requested to spread cinders on Shartle Road to deal with slippery road conditions.

One firefighter was transported by Meadville Ambulance to Meadville Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Other departments on scene included Vernon Central, Vernon Township, East Mead, and Saegertown.

All 28 units returned to service by 3:15 PM.
