At 2:07 PM West Mead #1 was dispatched with West Mead #2 and Meadville Ambulance for a reported structure fire near the intersection of Tamarack Drive and Williamson Road. Engines 28-12, 28-11, and 28-13 from West Mead #1 and Engine 29-2 and Rescue 29-8 from West Mead #2 initially responded. Arriving in the vicinity of the reported fire, the crew was informed by a civilian that the fire was located further south along Williamson Road. Approaching the southern border of the district, West Mead #1 asked Cochranton to stand by their station with one engine. After arriving on scene, lead engine personnel established that there was a brush fire involving approximately two acres, with no exposures, and canceled the ambulance unit. Brush units 29-4 from West Mead #2 and 4-23 from Cochranton were requested and responded to the scene. Crews used a 1″ forestry handline, portable tanks, and hand tools to bring the fire under control. Cochranton’s 4-23 was used to shuttle water from Engine 28-11 to Engine 28-12 near the front line.

As the brush fire incident concluded, West Mead #1 was dispatched for a medical emergency on Franklin Pike. EMS personnel on West Mead #2 Engine 29-2 handled that call for the department.

All 28 units returned to service by 5:02 PM.

West Mead #1 thanks our mutual aid departments for their flexibility and assistance on the calls.
