At 4:25 PM the two West Mead volunteer fire departments were dispatched for a garage fire on Baldwin Street. The initial radio report indicated someone had been welding in the detached garage before it caught fire. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 responded, while Vernon Central and Meadville Ambulance were requested to assist. Engine 29-2 arrived on scene to find a fully involved 20 foot by 24 foot garage near a residence. West Mead #2 knocked down the fire with two 1 3/4″ handlines. Chief 29 Todd Courson asked 28-12 to lay a line from the hydrant just north of Glenwood Ave. The crew on 28-12 wrapped the hydrant and completed an 800-foot forward lay with 4″ supply hose. At the fire West Mead #1 personnel assisted with water supply, overhaul and cleanup.

No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the garage itself and vinyl siding on the nearby residence.

All 28 units returned to service by 6:30 PM.
