At 4:48 PM on January 10 West Mead #1 was dispatched with other mutual aid departments to assist Cochranton with a large pile of mulch on fire along Franklin Pike. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 responded to the incident as requested. With Cochranton’s engine and tanker on scene with a dump tank and handline, Vernon Central’s 23-9 set up for aerial operations to attack the burning mulch pile. Engine 28-12 contributed to the tanker shuttle filling two dump tanks near Cochranton’s Tanker 4-22, while 28-13 responded to Cochranton for standby. With 28-12 being better suited for Cochranton’s fire station due to its size, West Mead #1’s lead engines switched places. 28-13 joined the water supply operation on Franklin Pike, while 28-12’s crew stood by at Cochranton’s station.

As fire engines and tankers returned to Cochranton’s station, 28-12’s crew assisted with cleanup and was released from standby after 8:00 PM when Cochranton was prepared to handle their own calls again.

Other departments assisting Cochranton with the incident included Utica, East Mead, Cooperstown, Randolph, Greenwood, and Vernon Central.
