After an eventful week, West Mead #1 provided an engine standby crew during fireworks that concluded the MARC’s ReMARCable Family Festival on July 1.

On Thursday a farm trailer partially overturned on the guard rail on US 322, spilling some of its contents on the roadway and the berm. Squad 28-14 responded to assist West Mead Police with traffic control until Route 19 removed the trailer and the roadway was cleared.

Just after midnight on Saturday, the department was dispatched after a passenger vehicle overturned in a flooded ditch along Franklin Pike. The driver of the vehicle was temporarily submerged but escaped successfully. More information and photos of this incident are posted here.

On Saturday evening some members of West Mead #1 were enjoying a cookout at Alden Street when Department 28 was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with injury and entrapment on Tamarack Drive. Engines 28-13, 28-11, and 28-12 responded to the scene, where a compact pickup truck had left the roadway at high speed and collided with a large tree. Both driver and passenger self-extricated and were transported to Meadville Medical Center for treatment. West End Towing assisted with removing the vehicle. Engines 28-12 and 28-11 remained on scene until the roadway was cleared, while 28-13 responded with an engine crew to Eldred Glen to provide a standby crew during fireworks at the ballfields, ending the MARC’s ReMARCable Family Festival.

Thanks to all West Mead #1 members for their hard work and sacrifice to serve the community at a moment’s notice!
