For drill on Tuesday West Mead #1 took all three engines to Townline Road for practice with drafting and relay pumping. Using 20 feet of hard suction with a floating strainer, Engine 28-11 set up to draft from the creek in a off-road access area established by the West Mead Township Road Department. Engines 28-13 and 12 set up as relay pumpers using 4″ large diameter hose (LDH). Pump operators in training practiced establishing a draft, and firefighters practiced deploying hard suction and supply lines, a realistic scenario given the district’s limited hydrant coverage.
