This week West Mead #1 headed to the Wilson Shute boat ramp for training with water supply operations using portable pumps. Crews set up two 500-gpm portable pumps with 20 feet of hard suction connected to floating strainers to push water through two 3″ supply hoses. A valved Siamese joined the two feeder lines to a 4″ LDH connected to Engine 28-11. Another section of 4″ LDH fed 28-13, which flowed water back to French Creek through its deck gun. The drill gave newer members practice on setting up portable pumps and re-establishing water supply after loss of prime, and newer operators an opportunity to fine-tune their pumping skills.
