Training this week at West Mead #1 emphasized selecting and placing the correct line in service based on size-up information with crews from Cochranton and Vernon Central. Two crews at a time responded into the drill area and just before parking the apparatus were given size-up information. The company officer then selected and instructed crews which attack line to utilize, given fire size and fuel package. The teams worked scenarios involving 1 3/4″, 2.5″, and master stream operations along with a blitz attack using an apparatus-mounted deck gun while crews stretched and positioned hand lines. After each evolution crews broke down and moved out of the drill area to reload hose while the next two apparatus and crews drilled.

Crews ended the evening with evolutions involving apparatus from more than one department. This scenario plays out frequently in the region and drilling in a controlled environment helps ensure our crews deliver the most effective response to our customers.
