On Tuesday, October 18, West Mead #1 Engines 28-11, 28-12, and 28-13 set up drafting operations near Cochranton Road as part of our weekly drill. The goal for the evening was to obtain a draft from a nearby pond using 6″ hard suction and to flow water back into the pond through each engine’s deck gun. Regular drafting with the engines helps keep West Mead 1 firefighters and engine operators refreshed on the procedure and pumping operations, as well as keeping the primer and pumping equipment in working order for each engine. Shortly after Engines 28-12 and 28-13 successfully pulled a draft from the pond, the drill was interrupted with a dispatch of a miscellaneous fire at the Morgan Street substation. All three engines broke down equipment and responded to the call.
