West Mead #1 crews returned to the scene of last night’s basement pump detail on Saybrook Road shortly before noon with Engines 28-11 and 28-13. Crews found additional water in the basement area of the house. After consulting with the township roadmaster, the department attempted to clear a blocked culvert. The crews deployed a portable monitor and used 2,000 gallons of water in an attempt to clear a blockage. However, water did not clear upstream in the area of the homeowner’s drainage pipe.

The department then set up multiple portable pumps and began pumping down the drainage basin in an effort to access the homeowner’s drainage pipe. After an hour of pumping 1,000 gallons per minute, crews accessed the drainage pipe and sealed off the pipe from the drainage basin. Crews operated a little over 3 hours on scene and returned to quarters to clean equipment.
