At 7:35 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched with Meadville Ambulance for a motor vehicle accident with injury and entrapment on US 322. Engines 28-13 and 28-12 and squad 28-14 responded to the incident involving a mid-size car and a semi-trailer truck, and Meadville Central and Cochranton were requested to assist. On arrival crews began extrication of the driver of the car, which they completed by removing the driver’s side door. The responders were unsuccessful in resuscitating the patient. After Pennsylvania State Police and West Mead Township Police conducted their accident investigation, the passenger car was removed by West End Towing and the semi-trailer by its owner, Geneva Truck and Equipment of Cochranton. 28-13 and 28-12 remained to help with cleanup and traffic control until the roadway was clear, with Cochranton’s fire police and PennDOT providing traffic control at Shaw’s Landing and Wilson Chutes.

All 28 units returned to service by 1:30 PM.

West Mead #1 extends thanks to Meadville Ambulance, Meadville Central, and Cochranton for their assistance, and we offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
