At 2:22 AM West Mead #1 was dispatched with West Mead #2 and Meadville Ambulance for a structure fire with possible entrapment on Oak Street in West Mead Township. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 responded while Meadville Central, Vernon Central, and Saegertown were dispatched on a second alarm. The entrapped occupants escaped through a second-story window onto the roof, where they were rescued by a neighbor with an extension ladder. West Mead #1 apparatus assisted with water supply while personnel were immediately assigned to roof and window ventilation, followed by secondary search and overhaul. All 28 units returned to service by 6:30 AM.
All occupants evacuated the apartment duplex safely, although one cat expired and several other pets were unaccounted for.
