At 9:50 am on April 24, West Mead #1 was dispatched with Meadville Ambulance to Thurston Road for a motor vehicle accident with injury. While enroute, 28-12 was notified that the driver of the vehicle may have had a seizure while driving. Upon arrival Department 28 crews found one vehicle on the roadway and one off the roadway in a creek. The patient from the vehicle in the creek extricated himself and was being assessed by EMS personnel when he had another seizure and was transported to Meadville Medical Center. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.
West Mead #1 was assisted on scene by West Mead Police, Meadville Central Fire Department, and West End Towing.
My mom was the other driver.
She didn’t think she was hurt at the time. But after the shock and adrenaline wore off she realized her leg hurt. I took her to Water St. Urgent Care and she had bruising on her leg and a fractured ankle. Today her side is sore as well.
We still don’t understand why this man, who was driving a rental because his car was wrecked last week when he had an accident, thought he was safe to be driving a car when he was having problems with seizures.
My mom had very little room to get off of the road when she saw him driving towards her at a high rate of speed, in her lane. I thank God she and her passenger were not killed.
