After ending the month of August with 27 incident responses, West Mead #1 has begun the month of September with 11 incidents, including a double stabbing and a three-alarm structure fire in the City of Meadville.
At 6:25 am West Mead #1 along with West Mead #2, Saegertown, and Vernon Central were dispatched to assist Meadville Central with a working structure fire on Terrace Street near Randolph Street. West Mead #1 responded with 28-11 and 28-12 with 15 members. While responding both West Mead departments were instructed to secure hydrants and assist with search/rescue of the main fire building. 28-11 secured a hydrant on Water Street before proceeding into the scene, while 28-12 established a water supply using the hydrant at the corner on Randolph and Park Ave. 11’s feed went directly to Engine 16-1 while 12’s feed went to the city’s tower ladder. When water supplies were established, crews from both units assisted with search/rescue along with suppression on all floors of the building. Due to the involvement on the structure and exposures on the B and D sides of the structure, crews from 28 stretched lines to the interior of the Delta exposure and utilized a third-floor window from the exposure to apply water to the fire building. A similar tactic was utilized on the roof of the Bravo exposure. Ultimately the incident reached a third alarm for additional manpower to assist with overhaul of the structure. West Mead #1 returned to quarters and went back in-service at 11:01 am.
While working in the city, Cochranton Fire Department placed one engine in the Liberty St. station for standby.
At 1:24 pm West Mead #1 was dispatched to assist Cochranton at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Townhall Road. 28-12 responded with 6 while several members stood by at the two stations.
