On Tuesday West Mead #1 members met at Liberty Street station to review knots and familiarize newer members with webbing and rope. Fire Chief Brad Johnston reviewed basic terms and demonstrated simple knots for utility and life safety rope, along with carabiners for self-rescue and general utility. Each member received a length of nylon tubular webbing, courtesy of the fire department. After practicing water knots and learning methods for storing webbing in their turnout gear, the group spent some time in hands-on practice, tying a wrap-3 pull-2 anchor and controlling a 2 1/2″ line using a hose strap.
