West Mead #1, along with Crawford County Scuba Team and West Mead #2, participated in Meadville Central Fire Department’s Annual Junior Firefighter Camp for kids at Department 16.

28-12 was stationed at Department 16 for the day. Activities for kids included overview of fire apparatus and equipment, learning about water rescue and scuba diving, using the thermal imaging camera, EMS, hose line operations, use of rescue tools, and protective equipment of firefighters. The day finished with a team relay race where each member of a team had to dress in turn out gear, crawl through a tunnel, remove the turn out gear, climb up one side of a ladder, down the other side, and finish by knocking off a target with hose lines. A great time was had by both kids and volunteer staff. Members participating from West Mead #1 included Alan Porter, Craig Lauer, Dale and Laurie Johnston, and Sam Sheasley.
