On May 2 West Mead #1 invited mutual aid departments West Mead #2, Vernon Township, Vernon Central, and Cochranton to the Crawford-Venango Fire School burn building in Cambridge Springs. About 30 firefighters took part in the day of training with live fire. The controlled-fire environment enabled a variety of training evolutions, such as advancing hoselines on first and second floors and recovering from disorientation to locate an exit. Senior members Jason Bresee and Jason Saeger of Cochranton; Jim Pratt of West Mead #2; and Brad Johnston, Craig Lauer, Alan Porter, and Brad Spring of West Mead #1 coached the crews through the evolutions.
After a lunch provided by West Mead #2, Nathan Hetrick (Vernon Central) and Cody Mowris (Greenville) provided a series of evolutions on raising ladders and VES (vent, enter, search).
The weather was perfect for training, and the joint exercises helped to build rapport with mutual aid companies.
